India ‘08
This evening I spent with some friends that Kathy and I are heading out to India with this summer on behalf of our local gathering of the church (note the hyperlink is not intentionally defining all church as this one church). It was a really good time.
I’m very excited about going. In my life I have been to England, Ireland, Wales, Northern Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, USA, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. But never really to a developing nation. It’s going to be an eye opener and I’ll be interested to see what we can learn from the people there, and how we can show grace and love as Christ has shown us.
I’ve just realised I’ll miss a big chunk of the European Championships. But it seems like a tiny sacrifice.
You’ll be reading more about this trip in weeks to come. Any tips on India are welcome!

You will be checking BBC Sport every night, I guarantee.
Go the the bookstore and read the chapter on India in The Geography of Bliss by Eric Wiener. I reviewed it on the blog today. India (the chapter) was eye-opening for me. A couple of things i remember off the top of my head…
While low on the real happiness scale, there were very happy people even in poor conditions.
One of the Indian pieces of advice was to stop thinking…that Westerners think too much, and forget to just be.
His time in an Ashram was interesting because it is not a place I would normally go, but it almost sounded interesting.
His sense of place was excellent. I felt like I could hear and smell India.
Seriously, go check that book out. I was entranced.
Will you still ‘twitter’ when you’re in India I wonder…!
Harrison - I hope so. In between curries and snake charming.
Laurie - of course! Mobiles work there too…..
Marla, thanks for the recommendation, will check it out (and your post).
