Jesus was a dudely dude

I’m kind of having a minor break from blogging at the moment. Just a wee touch busy and don’t have too much to write about. However, I’ve listened to 3 Driscoll sermons which were amazing - on the humanity of Jesus, on what Jesus achieved on the cross and on did Jesus die. The humanity one was particularly amazing (you can find it under his Vintage Jesus series). Good quote from today:

“Josephus was like a respected historian writing for the emperor, he wasn’t just some 13 year old kid with a blog and his own thoughts.”

It’s really reminded me of the privilege it is to be a Christian, and the magnitude of the suffering that Jesus went through physically and emotionally. I’ve been inspired to pick up Romans again, which is absolutely packed full of great stuff. Sometimes we make being a Christian sound very difficult but just remember this:

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”[e] 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.[f]

  1. Blogging break, eh? You’ll be missed. Hope returning to work isn’t robbing you of all those vacation relaxation vibes (wink).

    Peace,
    Jamie

  2. Not quite but almost. A nice migraine accompanied today. Feel like complaining so prob just as well I’m not blogging!

  3. I think blogging has become my new ranting ground…hee hee.

I love Romans - Romans 10 in particular (challenges the evangelistic heart in me!!)

One of my old church leaders says that Jesus showed us what it was to be truly human - He was more human than we were in some ways…

  4. i love the thought that part of the mission of god is to help us find our humanity and give the gift of humanity to others

  5. Paul, how would that work? Wouldn’t it imply if we had the ability to give humanity to others that they were not human to start with? I guess that their experience of life may not be human, so in that context it makes sense. I love how we can be agents for helping people to see the lies that they have been telling themselves and helping put those lies to death. I understand (currently) that would work through the transforming of people’s minds - so maybe that’s where we need to spend the time?

  6. Yep loved those sermons as well. My wife and I host a small group which went through the Vintage Jesus series recently. The humanity video in particular was very well received.

  7. I never actually saw the video, just listened to the podcast. It was quite easy to picture what he was talking about though.
