Why bother going to a Sunday service?

An interesting question. The whole issue of what worship looks like in relation to Sundays is being discussed here. I’ve commented on the definition of worship as I see it, which is much much bigger than the way [we] have always historically defined it. Your worship is the way you live your life.
Does that mean [...]

Buy here, right now & change the world

One of the topics that is increasingly close to my heart is social entrepenurship, and also philanthropy and how the two link together. I think I’ve blogged about social entrepeneurship before (note to self - try and dig out the post!). I’d define this as using business to change the world for the better, to [...]

Wilber-force for good

We’re just home from watching the film “Amazing Grace”. It was an incredible film and there is so much to it that it really grabs you. I’d expected a guilt trip through the horrors of slavery followed by a heroic campaign against injustice followed by a great victory that appeared to change the world for [...]

A marriage made in heaven

MBC has a slogan, from our pastor’s mouth, that we should define ourself by what we are and not by what we are not. As we look to be a massively outward focused church, to be a missional family, and to love God and love people, I find this really helpful. It’s the most simple, [...]

Whose side are they on anyway?

Occasionally it is a good thing to celebrate success - C’MON THE SCOOOOAAAATTTLAND.
Tomorrow night we play the world champions. No worries at all.
It is great that we will see the best team in the world playing Scotland, but it would have to be a contender for the best day of our lives if we take [...]

2 more books finished

Finished two books recently:- Wild Fire by Nelson de Mille- The Blogging Church by Brian Bailey (get this book if you’re a Christian and blog. You won’t like it all, or find it all relevant but I can guarantee that there will be something in there that makes you think - I took one action [...]

Looking for new bloggers?

The following list was lifted from Colin Lamm’s site who lifted it from Blindbeggar’s (Rick Meigs’ ;) site. It is a list of underrated / under-appreciated missional / emerging bloggers that was begun by Brother Maynard.
Add your own and stick it on your blog (see instructions below). Usual caveats apply - have not read [...]

Poor in SPIRIT are blessed

Good post by Rupert Ward on Money, Wealth and Poverty. Some similar type thoughts from my pastor Karl Martin on iTunes (Morningside Baptist Church) across 3 sermons called “Kingdom Kash” [forgive the title lol]. Should a Christian be poor - no, it’s about attitutdes. Can a Christian be rich?
I’m trying to live more simply constantly. [...]

Joy joy joy down in my heart

As you’ll be aware, I’m continuing to struggle with keeping going on daily writings for the blog. This is due to a few things:- feeling I have nothing worth writing- a greater sensitivity to what I now write as I use my own name- being exhausted by work- more “church” meetings to go to - [...]

End people trafficking

25th March is Freedom Day. It is also this weekend that sees the launch of “Amazing Grace”, the film about Wilberforce and his fight against slavery. I’m looking forward to seeing it. More info here.
This is not a problem that has disappeared. Lets do all we can to end it.

You Can Be An Abolitionist.
